Bourbon Roses

This family of roses originated on the Isle de Bourbon in 1817. Excellent shrubs that were all the fashion 150 years ago. All have fabulous fragrance and style. Most have good repeat flowers. They are the epitome of the Victorian rose.

Bourbon Queen - 1834

Semi-double, large cupped rose-pink blooms with good fragrance. Summer flowering. A sturdy shrub. Tolerant of poor soil and some shade. 1.8m.

Great Western - 1838

Fat buds open to fully double, large globular blooms. They start red and change to magenta-crimson or purple-maroon. Has a heady fragrance. Summer flowering. Tolerant of poor soil and looks good in shade. If left unpruned forms a large arching shrub. A personal favourite. 1.8m.

Heroine de Vaucluse - 1863

Fragrant, generously large, very double, globular, velvety pink rose. 1.8m.
