Moss Roses

An old and unusual family, so-named for the mossy bracts which cover the buds, exuding a turpentine fragrance when touched. Moss roses were popular in Victorian times, but have sadly become neglected. They are worth growing. Many visitors to our garden comment on the mossing, mistaking it for a bad case of aphids! Moss roses are sports of the many petalled Centifolia family, blooming mostly in spring and early summer.
