Climbing roses tend to have big flowers, stiff canes, which require training on a post or along a fence or structure. They can be a bit bare at the base and often benefit from under-planting.

Rambling roses tend to have small flowers, but lots of them. They put up lots of new shoots up from the base and have very flexible canes, ideal for training over structures, or they can be grown standalone when they will form a large spectacular shrub or can be used as ground cover.
